Our Story

We meet at work

MAY 2018

Coco and Matt were first introduced at a Hawaiian-themed work happy hour when they both worked for Sunrun, a residential solar company. Despite the fairytale romantic undertones of their first encounter, they began their relationship as friends and enjoyed constant workplace banter.

We make it official

SEPTEMBER 2018

Fast forward through 3 months of daily coffee breaks, workdays spent crafting witty text exchanges, and at least one consultation of the HR handbook: when Matt asked Coco to be his girlfriend at the Treasure Island music festival, she replied, “Haven’t I been your girlfriend this whole time?” Matt smiled uncomfortably.

We say "I love you"

NOVEMBER 2018

Coco broke the ice first and told Matt she loved him over a game of mini golf.  Matt, known for perhaps being a bit competitive, hastily muttered he loved her too before admonishing her "not to disrupt my swing." While he quickly realized this was not the appropriate response, she has never let him forget it.

We make a home

FEBRUARY 2019

After practically living together in Coco's tiny studio and not killing each other, Matt asked Coco to move in with him. She casually replied, “Sure, I guess,” before promptly looping him in on the dozen in-flight inquiries she had into apartments for them to share (subtlety and patience have never been her strong suit).

We expand our family

APRIL 2020

Coco had already primed the pump by introducing Matt to Heidi, her 12-year-old Ragdoll that he lovingly refers to as his "gateway cat". When they adopted Beau at the start of the pandemic, Matt's transformation to cat daddy was complete.

We put a ring on it

JULY 2020

Matt asked Coco to be his forever under the sunset on Laguna Beach, in front of both happy families. Coco said yes, and the rest is history.
