"Why are they getting married in a remote town, 3 hours from an airport?"

- You, probably

Mendocino was Matt and Coco’s refuge from San Francisco during the dumpster fire that was 2020. They spent their first pandemic weekend getaway in Mendocino, enjoying farm to table meals, toasting champagne on the beach, kayaking through sea caves and hiking through redwoods. The weekend was so romantic that Coco thought Matt would propose at the end of it (he didn't), but they still felt it was a special place that charmed--and represented--both of them.

Because it looks like this

Mendocino is one of the most naturally beautiful corners of California, boasting dramatic coastal cliffs and old growth redwoods. The town of 855 takes about 15 minutes to walk end-to-end, meaning that all guests will be a stone’s throw from each other for an epic “adult summer camp” weekend focused on what matters most to the bride and groom -- bringing friends and family together to create treasured memories.

Pictures from our first trip to Mendocino, where we fell in love with the town!

getting there

by plane

For guests coming from outside the Bay Area, the closest major airports are San Francisco International (SFO) or Oakland International (OAK) (3-hour drive). Sonoma County Airport (2-hour drive) has fewer direct flights.

by car

Coming from the Bay, the most direct route is the 101N to the 128W.  If you don't mind adding an hour to your drive, we highly recommend taking the Pacific Coast Highway (101N to 1N), as it winds along the coast and through towering redwood forests.

In Anderson Valley (where the 101 N splits to the 128 W), there are great wineries and food options to break up the drive. Our favorites are Roederer Estate (for champagne tasting) and Boonville General Store (for a quick bite).

where should you stay?

Immediate family and the wedding party will be staying at the 19-room MacCallum House through the weekend. The beauty of a Mendocino wedding (besides, obviously, the beauty of Mendocino) is how small the town is--not only can you really not go wrong with any of the hotels in the area, almost all are within a short walk of the MacCallum house.

While we’ve recommended a couple hotels below, we encourage you to (a) do your own research and choose any hotel within walking distance, and (b) book as soon as possible, as rooms can fill up 8 months in advance in peak summer months. Finally, while we recognize that Fort Bragg is within driving distance and has some affordable lodging options, we highly encourage our guests to stay within the Mendocino downtown district, for the sake of maximizing our time together throughout the weekend. We will not be providing shuttles outside of Mendocino, and there is limited taxi/rideshare capacity in neighboring towns.
